While I’ve been busy living out my own life’s petty dramas, though they don’t seem so petty when I’m besieged by them, the whole world seems to have spun off its axis:
- Volcanoes erupting — Pictures: Volcanoes Erupting Around the World This Week, from National Geographic
- Isis beheadings — ‘Jihadi John’ threatens to behead a Brit next: Terrifying challenge to Cameron after ISIS executioner murders second US journalist in new video, from the UK’s MailOnline
- Ebola outbreak — CDC Director: Ebola Outbreak ‘Spiraling Out Of Control,’ ‘Window Of Opportunity Is Closing’, from BusinessInsider
- Putin and the Ukraine, not to mention smaller NATO allies in the region — Putin Now Threatens Nuclear Attack, from Accuracy in Media
Just a select few of recent headlines in the news….
Is Kumbaya futile and outdated in this world seemingly gone deranged? I fondly remember the idealism of my youth. But at the same time, my up close and personal encounter with a psychopath has taught me that things are not so simple. Sometimes, we do have to take a harsher stance. I read an article on DailyKos (granted, from 2010), seeming to express my same sentiment in a slightly different way. While I believe that evil needs to be confronted everywhere it exists, I am loathe to give up on the halcyon days of Kumbaya.
Even in a beleaguered world, and in our private lives, there must be hope for healing, and yes, a little Kumbaya.
